Oilfield Mystery

Worker’s disappearance highlights kidnap and ransom insurance policies

A Houston law firm successfully represented in wrongful death litigation the family of an oilfield worker who was kidnapped and presumed killed in Colombia.

In support of the law firm’s litigation strategy, Powers MediaWorks LLC placed the story with The New York Times and The Dallas Morning News and set up meetings in Houston and the Dominican Republic with reporters, legal counsel and family of the missing worker.

The newspaper reports raised awareness about kidnap and ransom insurance and how companies manage insurance coverage of employees and contractors. The news coverage also forced changes in sales practices at one of the insurers.
